Multilevel Modelling for Repeated and Correlated Data: Application Using STATA Software

19 August 2020 @ 10:00 am - 20 August 2020 @ 2:00 pm

Multilevel models are composed of fixed and random effects components and are used extensively in social sciences to analyse either hierarchical structured data that involve cluster correlations or data that is repeated over time (longitudinal data). This workshop aims to teach students multilevel hypothesis testing and analysis for continuous, count, categorical-binary, and ordinal dependent variables with application on STATA software.

The workshop will be tutored by Ms. Mary Abed Al Ahad, a PhD student in Geography at the University of St Andrews and will run over two half days: the 19 and 20 of August 2020, from 10:00 to 13:45 each day (with a 30 minute break).

During the first day, students will be introduced to the concept of multilevel modelling and hypothesis testing and to multilevel modelling for continuous dependent variables using mixed effect models in STATA software. The second day will tackle multilevel modeling and data interpretation for binary, count, and ordinal dependent variables with application on STATA software using the mixed effects generalised linear models (GLMs).

This workshop targets students with an interest in repeated and correlated data analysis. The participating students should have STATA software installed on their computers for the application part. It is recommended, though not necessary, for participants to have a beginner working level in STATA software and knowledge on basic hypothesis testing methods such as linear and logistic regression. Nevertheless, this is not a pre-requisite as all the needed guidance and codes to run the multilevel models in STATA software will be provided by the tutor in details.

Please note: once you have registered for this event, you will be added to the event group on Social. Workshop materials and meeting links will be posted within the group.
