The call for decolonisation within the academy has been intensifying in recent years. What does this mean for our research methodologies? This workshop opens a dialogue on what decolonising research may mean. The first part of the workshop begins by examining coloniality and how these shapes modes of knowledge production. The second part of the workshop then considers what decolonial methodologies may mean in practice, considering its implications for both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Through the course of the workshop, I will share my experiences of using research as a tool for social change within South Africa and my attempts, failings and missteps in attempting to undertake decolonial research.
