led by Dr Dely Elliot and Dr Rui (Elin) He
This workshop aims to encourage deeper introspection into the doctoral experience among those whose country of origin differs from where they have chosen to pursue a PhD.
In this workshop, we will cover the following:
• reflecting on what makes international PhD journeys different from other PhD journeys – why appreciating this matters.
• discussing the potentials, challenges and uncertainties that typically confront scholars in their PhD abroad experience;
• sharing ideas on ways how international doctoral scholars can optimise their unique journeys;
• prompting international doctoral scholars to be proactively in control of their multiple journeys, i.e. both PhD and post-PhD; and
• understanding the holistic view of the doctoral experience and what the implications are for a successful PhD abroad experience.
This session is most suitable for international PhD students in Scotland, but home students are welcome to attend.
