This event offers opportunity for researchers across disciplines to come together around the concept of social capital and explore, through instructor-led training alongside workshop and collaborative discussion, what this means for their own and wider research. The collaborative and peer-to-peer networking opportunities allow attendees from different points in their research journey to meet and discuss the conceptual and methodological opportunities and challenges of using social capital in their frameworks.
As the event is focused on the concept of social capital, which offers a fungibility in the exchange of assets and resources from an individual, community and organisational perspective, there is relevance and opportunity to consider this from an interdisciplinary perspective. There is also consideration of the issues which surround equality and inclusion, and it is anticipated that some of the researchers will be considering or currently utilising social capital within their frameworks which address social injustices and inequality. Therefore, the premise is to explore the various positions of social capital (Bourdieu, Lin, Field, Burt and Portes as examples) in consideration against the attendees’ own research.
Who is it for?
Anyone who has an interest in social capital, at any stage of their research journey. Attendees are not required to have attended previous training, however, should come with a definition of what they consider social capital to represent.
The event will take place via Collaborate platform and the instructor-led training as part of the event will be recorded for use as a training resource after the event.
