led by Dr Taulant Guma, Edinburgh Napier University
In this session we will learn about participatory research as a specific form of engaged and alternative academic inquiry. We will focus on what it actually means to do participatory research and use participatory methods today within a context of popularization of these methods and approaches in social sciences. The session will cover some of the key methodological, ethical and practical challenges involved in participatory research and how these can be negotiated in practice. At the end of the session, the student is expected to get a good overview of participatory methods and a critical perspective of how to apply them in their own research.
