An engaging and interactive two-part workshop designed to demystify Critical Realism (CR) and make it a practical tool for your research. This event will provide a clear, structured understanding of CR’s core principles and demonstrate how they can enhance research design and problem-solving.
In Session 1 (in-person, 12 August 10:30am – 12:30pm), we will use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and interactive discussions to explore the challenges of applying philosophical paradigms in social science research. Through hands-on activities, participants will externalize complex ideas, share experiences, and collaboratively identify solutions to key research dilemmas. Sticky notes and posters will capture insights, shaping the content of Session 2.
Session 2 (online, 19 August 10:30am – 12:30pm) will build on these insights, offering a deep dive into key CR concepts such as stratified reality, causal mechanisms, and context. Participants will engage in case study analyses, online polls, and discussions to strengthen their understanding and application of CR.
Beyond individual learning, this workshop fosters a collaborative research network, providing attendees with an ongoing support system. Asynchronous resources, including MIRO boards, presentation slides, and optional recorded content, will be made available to ensure continued learning.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical strategies for integrating CR into research, while also connecting with peers facing similar challenges. No prior knowledge of CR is required.
