IE approach is considered as an alternative sociology, a sociology from the standpoint of participants. The workshop will provide an overview of institutional ethnography, an approach to text analysis and mapping organisational or institutional processes. At the end of the workshop, participant will be able to understand the institutional ethnography and its application in health-related research. Dr Vikash Kumar (Queen Margaret University) will introduce institutional ethnography drawing on his PhD research experience about implementation of integrated health programmes from health workers’ standpoint.

- understand institutional ethnography as alternative sociological method (philosophical and theoretical underpinning)
- learn key concepts of institutional ethnography
- learn how to conceptualise IE project
- understand data collection, data analysis and report writing process for IE projects
