Participatory Approaches to Health and Social Research in the UK and Globally

4 March 2021 @ 10:00 am - 5 March 2021 @ 1:00 pm

This online interactive workshop will provide training in participatory research methods to doctoral students from across Scotland who are considering/already using input from key stakeholders in order to maximise the impact and applicability of their research, including its potential to inform policy and practice.

Participants in the workshop do not require any specific prior training.  After attending the event they will be able to:

– Critically appraise the use of participatory approaches in research.
– Define ‘optimum participation’ in relation to their own research.
– Describe different participatory approaches used in research in the UK and low-and-middle income countries.
– Critique the added value of example participatory approaches.
– Describe the key challenges in adopting a participatory approach.

The workshop will be facilitated by Cindy Gray, HFRDC Pathway Convenor and University of Glasgow Representative and Purva Abhyankar, University of Stirling HFRDC Pathway Representative.
