The STAR 1 programme, running from 19-23 April 2021, is an extended, online training workshop for pre-fieldwork graduate students guided by faculty in the discipline of social anthropology. The STAR 1 programme has been uniquely designed to respond to the perceived needs of pre-fieldwork students, covering everything from practical aspects of fieldwork (including the latest ethnographic methods, ethics, and well-being in the field) to how to successfully promote yourself and your findings within and outside academia. A key aim of this workshop is to build a sense of cohesion between and amongst the full range of Scottish Social Anthropology students. Meetings will take place through Microsoft Teams, and follow a schedule of talks, discussions, and targeted exercises carried out in smaller peer groups, culminating at the end of the week in peer group presentations and a talk from a prestigious guest speaker.
Students will attend two sessions per day with each session containing breaks, and lasts in total between 2 – 3 hours (morning: 9.15-12pm or 10-12pm & afternoon: 2-4pm).
Please note, this event is suitable for pre-fieldwork students on a PhD programme in Social Anthropology.
