STAR2 is an online training event for post-fieldwork writing up PhD students in Social Anthropology in Scotland that combines master classes focused on writing up PhD research projects with sessions preparing PhD students for careers in anthropology within and beyond the academy.
Keynote talks and Small Group Writing sessions will be given or led by distinguished international social anthropologists: Dr Brian Alleyne (Goldsmiths) and Dr Chika Watanabe (Manchester).
Alongside the central strand of master classes, students will attend single sessions on various aspects of academic career training. These include sessions on ‘’Funding opportunities,’ ‘Turning research into undergraduate course and other teaching,’ ‘Transition from PhD into non academic anthropological career’, and ‘PhD Viva experience’.
The training event will run from 11-14 May 2021. Participants will be asked to submit ahead of the event brief answers to these questions:
1. What is your thesis project about? (100 words)
2. What is the most surprising thing in your project? (100 words)
3. What are you struggling with in your writing? (200 words)
Please note this training is for social anthropology students who are in their post-fieldwork years (i.e years 3,4 or possibly 5).
