This event is a 2.5-hour online training session on some of the key benefits and challenging issues when implementing a mixed-methods design in social research.
This training session consists of four parts. The first part is an introduction to critiques of different paradigms, and it will last for 15 minutes. The second part is an introduction to the most popular qualitative methods which will last for 45 minutes, followed by a short 5-minute break. The training will resume by introducing the most common quantitative methods for another 45 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break. The fourth part will be a combination of different paradigms, what is called between-methods or mixed-methodologies, which will last for 30 minutes. At the end of the training, there will be a five-minute window for questions from the floor.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this training students will:
- distinguish between methodology and method
- understand the usual critiques of the two frameworks of social enquiry
- receive an introduction to different qualitative and quantitative methods
- develop critical skills in regard to understanding when to use different methods
- comprehend what is and what is not mixed-methods social research
- understand the advantages and challenges of mixed-methods.
The training will be recorded. No access to particular software is needed.
