Join us for an insightful two-part online workshop on Critical Realism (CR) in policy research. This interdisciplinary event is aimed at postgraduate students interested in enhancing their understanding of policy research through the lens of CR.
Session one: 2pm to 4:30pm on Friday, 13 September 2024
Session two: 2pm to 4:30pm on Friday, 20 September 2024
The workshop introduces Critical Realism as an approach to addressing the often observed disconnect between academic research practices and the practical demands of policymaking. Participants will explore how CR can provide an effective framework for understanding and influencing policy.
Session one: Introduction to Critical Realism, its comparative advantages over other research paradigms, and exercises to apply CR
One-week gap: A period for reflection and preparation for next session.
Session two: Recap of the initial learnings, examination of five case studies where CR has been applied to policy research, and a discussion on effective communication with policymakers.
Learning Outcomes:
– Understanding the applications of Critical Realism in social science research.
– Ability to apply mixed methods for analysing policy issues.
– Skills to enhance the relevance of research findings for policymaking.
Format:
This workshop encourages active participation and collaborative exploration among participants.
