Feminist Methodologies and Practice

16 June 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

led by Dr Jo Ferrie and Dr Sharon Greenwood

This session will introduce students to the ideology at the heart of feminist methodologies. Feminist methodologies take particular care to make research inclusive, to foreground the voices of experts and dismantle power imbalances between the researcher and the researched. These approaches come with a particular political understanding of the academy and the research process which we will negotiate. We will examine practices such as reflexivity and building rapport alongside particular methodologies and methods that to a greater or less extent, permit a feminist approach. While the training will focus predominantly on research practices, we will take time to consider structural barriers to being and doing that dominate contemporary university structures.

Students attending will understand more about how to work with a feminist approach and how this might be written through a thesis or journal article.
