led by Dr Katherine Keenan and Dr Kathryn Fredricks
This one-day in person workshop in Edinburgh will introduce the basics of using NVivo for qualitative research projects. This is ideal for those who are new to NVivo, or would like a refresher on the basics.
Students will be introduced to the NVivo software and learn how to do some fundamental tasks:
- identifying how to best use NVivo for your project
- designing and setting up an NVivo project
- importing and organising various forms of data
- creating codes, cases, memos, and annotations
- beginning to work with your coded data
We will use sample projects in NVivo as well as some curated open access qualitative data (the Qualitative Election Study of Britain). However, there is an opportunity to discuss how to use NVivo to manage your own project.
Students will use their own laptops and must pre-install NVivo prior to the session. There are no computers available to use in the classroom.
We strongly recommend that you use Windows and not Mac versions of NVivo if you have a choice.
This training is for those who would like to learn or remind themselves of the basics. For those who are at a later stage, a more advanced NVivo course will be running in January – look out in the Friday Digest for details later in the year.
