Being reflexive is a core skill required of social researchers. However, beyond when we are prompted to discuss reflexively in ethics applications and other bureaucratic processes, it’s easy to not fully engage with what ‘being reflexive’ can and should mean for us and our research. Therefore, this training workshop aims to promote both an intellectual and embodied relationship with reflexivity, to enhance participants’ understanding of how they influence and shape their research. Co-delivered by Talitha Brown and Jessica Cleary, two fellow doctoral students nearing the end of their PhD journey, this workshop combines lecture-style presentations and guided small and large group activities to critically explore how reflexivity can be used as an ethical and methodological resource when designing, conducting and writing up social research.
Although this workshop may be of particular interest to those conducting qualitative fieldwork and/ or those studying populations who are impacted by oppression, inequality or trauma; this event assumes no prior knowledge of the topic and is designed to highlight the importance of reflexivity regardless of research disciplines and methodological approach.
This interactive half-day workshop will run on Thursday 21st July 2022 10-2pm on Zoom.
