This event will take place virtually and seeks to engage students in a full day workshop focused on developing participants’ skills and knowledge around trauma-informed research. The workshop is comprised of short talks, presentations, and various group activities designed to build confidence, explore new ideas and discuss different approaches to researching vulnerable groups.
– Format of event: Full day online workshop including lectures, case studies and breakout rooms.
-Level of training needed: None necessary but more suitable for students using qualitative methods looking to build a trauma-informed toolkit for research.
Learning Outcomes
- To identify what trauma means and how trauma affects the brain and body.
- To understand the basic principles of trauma informed research practice.
- To introduce trauma informed methodologies and the application of research methods.
- To build researcher confidence in responding to trauma and providing supportive aftercare to participants.
- To understand the effects of vicarious trauma, the importance of self-compassion for researchers and organisational responsibility.
Accessibility and Requirements
The workshop will be online, participants will need access to wifi and consent to being recorded during the lectures. Due to the interactive nature of the workshop, participants will be expected to fully engage with the tasks given by the facilitators. Tasks and activities throughout the session will require participants to access their camera and microphone.
