This will be a day-long event, taking place at the University of Stirling’s Stirling Court Hotel on Friday the 17th May.
It will take place in person, and we will also try to make it possible to attend sessions online, in hybrid format.
The symposium will consist of a variety of activities, such as panels, talks and interactive wellbeing sessions, providing the opportunity for PGR students from Universities across Scotland to:
- learn about and discuss interdisciplinarity, whatever it means to you, from a PGR perspective
- explore ways of facilitating wellbeing for PGR researchers
- socialise, support and learn from your peers in the Social Science community
There will also be an optional early evening social activity and drinks reception, so you can relax and get to know other social science researchers across Scotland. If you would like to attend, please check the ‘I would like to attend the evening event’ box when you sign up.
You will be contacted with a finalised timetable and details about the venue and travel options closer to the date after you sign up.
As ever, the event is by PGR students, for PGRs students! All Social Science PGRs at Scottish universities are welcome to attend, regardless of your funding status.
Whether you are SGSSS funded or not, you can claim expenses directly caused by attending this event (e.g., travel, childcare) through this link: https://apply.sgsss.ac.uk/prog/expenses/. Further details of SGSSS’s expense policy are available here: https://social.sgsss.ac.uk/files/documents/sgsss-expenses-policy.pdf
Finally, we are looking for students to give a lightning talk (up to 5 minutes) at the symposium about what interdisciplinarity means to you. You could talk about topics like (but not limited to):
- How do you define interdisciplinarity?
- What has interdisciplinarity brought to your research (theoretically and/or methodologically)?
- What challenges have you encountered when doing interdisciplinary research?
- How do you envision your interdisciplinary research contributing to addressing real-world social issues?
- What do you see as the future of interdisciplinary research in the field of social sciences?
After each talk, there will be a short Q&A (up to 5 minutes). This will be a good opportunity for you to share your experience, discuss with others, and practice speaking publicly in a friendly environment, where we are all dedicated to the diverse perspectives brought by interdisciplinarity!
Please indicate whether you are interested in giving a talk by checking the ‘I am interested in giving a lightning talk’ box when you register.
