led by Dr Rachel O’Donnell
This session is intended to be an introductory guide for students who have never engaged in qualitative research before, or have a small amount of qualitative experience that they would like to build on. We will cover the differences between qualitative and quantitative research, when to use mixed methods, ethics and reflexivity, use of interviews, focus groups and other qualitative methods, an introduction to qualitative analysis, and writing up qualitative research for publication. There will also be plenty of time for questions and discussion. No prior learning is required.
Rachel is a qualitative researcher at the Institute for Social Marketing and Health, University of Stirling. She has over 15 years’ experience of designing, conducting and writing up qualitative research, on a variety of topic areas and with varied groups. This sessions draws real-world examples of qualitative research in practice.
