led by Professor Melanie Simms
This workshop is aimed at people who are considering and/or actively designing a project that compares case studies. It is cross-disciplinary across the social sciences. Colleagues from disciplines that have highly discipline-specific approaches to comparative case studies (especially politics and international relations) will find much of interest to reflect on but may not find the theoretical depth needed for their discipline. Through discussion and examples, we will reflect on:
- What is a case study?
- How a comparative case research design can allow us to theorize beyond a single case.
- How we design a comparative case project.
- Fieldwork challenges of comparative cases.
- How to develop impact from comparative cases.
