This is a 2-day workshop event on “Working with survey data: Creating and analysing survey instrument”, led by Marifatul Amalia (PhD student, The University of Edinburgh). The workshop will be held on 18 and 19 October 2022 from 09.30 am to 12.00 UK time.
The first day of workshop will focus on “creating a survey instrument”. Participants will learn how to turn research questions into concept, measurement, and set of survey questions. In the group practice, participants will have opportunities to create a set of survey instrument from chosen research questions. Additionally, participants will be introduced to available survey instrument resources.
The second day of workshop will be on “analysing a survey instrument”. A 75-minute lecture will be followed by group practice and whole-class discussion. This session is trying to answer two questions: 1) I am not conducting my own survey, why do I need to understand survey instrument? 2) What are steps taken to analyse a survey instrument?
For students who will collect their own data using surveys, this workshop will provide hands-on experience in developing robust survey instruments. Meanwhile, for students who will use existing survey data, this workshop will provide a chance to understand how data is derived, what information is captured in the data, and what the data limitations are. This workshop is open to students with any level of knowledge and experience in data collection (master’s and PhD students).
