    Royal Society of Edinburgh Mentoring Scheme 2022/23

    Mentee Application

    Thank you for considering an application to work with a mentor through the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS) and Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Mentoring Scheme.

    The RSE Mentoring Scheme matches RSE Fellows to current PhD students who are exploring the interdisciplinary and collaborative potential of their work. It is open to applications from ESRC funded PhD students only. The deadline to apply is Friday 11 November.

    Aims and Objectives

    The scheme is designed to:

    • Enable PhD students to explore the value of interdisciplinarity for their research and research culture more broadly;
    • Increase PhD students’ understanding of research impact, potential networks, and careers advice;
    • Build a culture of collaborative, supportive practice between RSE Fellows and the next generation of research leaders;
    • It should be noted that each mentee will have the opportunity to set and work towards their own objectives for mentoring.

    Please note that the scheme is designed to be multi-disciplinary and collaborative. PhD students will be matched with a mentor from a different subject area to provide a space for interdisciplinary thinking.

    Please make sure you have read the RSE-SGSSS Mentoring Guidance before making your application. Applications will be assessed on the impact that involvement in this scheme is likely to have on your professional development.

    Finally, completing the application form is not a guarantee that we will be able to find you a suitable match, but it is a necessary step if you would like to participate. If you have any questions, please contact the SGSSS on team@sgsss.ac.uk.
