What does it mean to decolonise within the academy? How can this relate to creating research for social change? This workshop explores these two critical questions. The first part of the workshop begins by exploring coloniality and how this shapes knowledge production. We will then explore different perspectives on what it means to decolonise and how this may shape research design. The second part of the workshop builds upon this discussion to consider how to craft research for social change. We will discuss the possibilities and limitations of the academy as a site for research in the pursuit of social justice. Through the course of the workshop, I will share my experiences of using research as a tool for social change within South Africa.
